"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice Saying at the end of the day: I will try again tomorrow." -- Mary Anne Radmacher "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people And the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics And endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better... Whether by a healthy child, A garden patch, Or a redeemed social condition. To know even one life has breathed easier Because you have lived. This is the meaning of success."

Two related quotes: "[Life] is like the weather. You can't make the rain go away by stamping your feet and yelling and screaming at it. You have to just wait it out, as calmly as possible, and appreciate it for what it is (though you may be wet and cold, without the rain the plants would not be able to grow). Eventually, the clouds will part and a rainbow will emerge." ~Me "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference."
~Unknown This entry is a work in progress. The latter quote is pretty famous, but I don't know where it comes from. I want to give credit, so if anyone knows please enlighten me. Also, the first quote relates to the "serenity to accept" bit of the second quote. If anyone knows of a quote/saying/piece_of_wisdom (your own or somebody else's) relating to having the courage to make changes, please let me know. If I had both, it would all tie together beautifully and make this entry so much more powerful! And along those lines, I always welcome contributions (quotes, images, videos, essays, poetry, anything inspirational really), just remember to credit properly if you know the author/creator, and if not simply say "unknown". You can email your suggestions to me at: nikki.freetobeme@gmail.com. Thanks! ~acreativememory~ PS (while I'm already in converstation-with-my-readers mode), what do you think about making acreativememory a community instead of a personal livejournal? If it was a community, would you join? Would you contribute? Or do you think it should remain as is? Why? I am open to any imput for making this little project of mine better for everyone! |

Lines from the movie Click. I think the message here is a good one to remember. I do not remember the names of the characters, so just keep in mind that every other line is a different person talking. I also dont think these are the exact words, but I got the general gist. (If you did not see Click you might be a little confused. Sorry).
"Why did you do this to me?"
"This is the life you chose."
"But its not the life I wanted."
"You were fast-forwarding your life long before I gave you the remote." |

Normally I wouldn't put two quotes in one entry, but these are related. How you ask? You'll see: "It's never too late to start living the life you've always wanted to live, or to start being the person you've always wanted to be." ~Unknown "Feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel it for you, Only you can let it in. No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open. Today is where your book begins, The rest is still unwritten." ~From "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield |

"In the end, you probably will not regret not receiving one more A, not passing one more test, not making one more deal, not winning one more trial, or not winning one more award. However, you will regret not spending enough time with a friend, family member, or loved one." ~Unknown |

"It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime, so let me say before we part: So much of me is made of what I learned from you. You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart, and now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend." ~from the musical Wicked Paul & The Ripples Project: Rippling@theripplesproject.orgMy friends at Drew University: Thank you for being my friends.

It's better to be loved by some and hated by others than to be liked by everyone or not known by anyone. |

"You Don't Know What You've Lost Until it's Found" from Fraggle Rock Chorus: You don't know how it tastes until you try. You don't know how to laugh until you cry. You don't know where you've been until you're homeward bound, And you don't know what you've lost until it's found. Verse 1: Red: Once I thought the world was made for me. Wembly: Once I thought experience was free. Mokey: I never thought you'd have to pay the price. Gobo: Then I found you sometimes pay it twice. Verse 2: Boober: Now I've done some living and I know That everything you love is bound to go. And then one day my luck was turned around. What was loved and lost was lost and found. |

There is nothing one can learn or experience that is useless or irrelevant. Something may seem unimportant or unrelated to what you need to know, but if you think hard enough about it, you'll realize that everything is intricately related. And although you may not find a new experience or new knowledge useful right away, you will definitely use it at some point in your life. It may even be so far in the future that it seems as if what you know was never even learned; that you have known it all your life. |

Sometimes, to truly care for and about someone means to do not what they want you to do or what seems best to them, but what is best FOR them. To quote Bruce Almighty: Bruce: I just wanted to give everyone what they wanted. God: Yes, but since when do people know what they want. |

This semester I began taking a painting class. I was a little worried about it at first, because I still thought of Art as just a hobby; something I was mildly interested in and only somewhat talented in. I was afraid that I would end up, as I had for part of the drawing class I had taken a year earlier, comparing myself to other students, and thus feeling a lack of confidence. However, the worries that went through my mind did not prevent me from feeling excited. For regardless of my abilities in the field, Art has always been something that I really enjoy. On the first day of class our teacher set up tables of fruit and instructed us to paint them. The only preparation he gave was a very quick demonstration, during which he did little talking. He gave no advice and did not tell us of any techniques that day; he simply painted the fruit himself, gave us supplies, and told us to start painting. At the time, his method of instruction (or rather, lack thereof) confused me. But looking back on it, that was the best thing he could have done for us. ( Read more... ) |

Here's something my mother told me when I was a senior in high school and stressed out from college searching, and worried that I would make the wrong decision and regret it. I wrote it down because I wanted to remember her exact words. I think the advice she gave me will be useful for when I start applying for graduate schools, and can also be applied to any situation in which an important decision needs to be made: "Getting a good education and meeting new people is never a wrong decison. Maybe there isn't a right and a wrong decision, just a place where you'll be happy and a place where you'll be slightly happier. So just do whatever your heart tells you. No matter where you go, you'll have good days and you'll have bad days. So you need to just let your thoughts of the good days carry you through the bad." ~My mom, Karen Boucher |
